Damon Smith has been an educator in SJUSD since 2002. He began his career as an elementary teacher and taught 1-6 grades over the years. He began his administrative role as a Vice Principal at Starr King K-8, then served as the principal at Cambridge Heights Elementary, Del Paso Manor K-6 and now sits in the same position at Katherine Johnson Middle School. He has worked at many schools across the district, serving high and low density populations, and everything in between. He serves his colleagues and the district as a member of the Professional Growth Team (PGT), a mentor principal and as a SJPEC past-president.
Sue Hulsey

Sue began her teaching career in San Juan Unified at Louis Pasteur Middle School in 1981. She taught at various middle schools in the district until her promotion to vice principal at Winston Churchill Middle School in 1993. Three years later Sue became the principal at Churchill. Moving into the district office in 2000 as a director, Sue spent the next ten years in various positions – director of summer school and open enrollment, middle school director, K-8 director, Assistant Superintendent K-12, Interim Superintendent – until her retirement in 2010. In 2010, she held various educational positions as a consultant, including interim principal and interim director. Sue returned to the district from 2013 to 2017 as the Assistant Superintendent, Elementary Education. Since her retirement, Sue has been consulting and supporting various districts in the state, including San Juan. She is very pleased to be joining the SJPEC team as the interim Executive Director.
